Commissioner Bernie Heier Announces for Re-Election
Lincoln, January 16, 2008 – County Commissioner Bernie Heier announced today that he will seek re-election to the County Board of Commissioners, representing District 4. Heier was appointed in 1998, and was elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2004.
"I have enjoyed being a member of the Lancaster County Board. During the past few years the County Board has made a number of difficult decisions; I know there will be more difficult decisions in the future. I am prepared to use my experience and leadership to continue to get things done for Lancaster County," Heier said.
Commissioner Heier has served on the County Board for 9 years, during that time his priorities for Lancaster County have remained the same:
- Maintain and endorse a responsible budget
- Support and improve public health and safety
- Maintain services and programs for the Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center
- Continue alternative programs for qualified adult offenders, instead of incarceration
- Remain actively involved in Land Use Planning and continue to support economic development
Heier is currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the Lancaster County Board; Director and Past President of the District Energy Corporation Board; Member of the Juvenile Detention Center Advisory Board; Member, Past Chair and Vice Chair of the City County Common; Member of the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Association of County Officials; Commissioner, Nebraska Innovation Zoning Commission (I-80 Corridor); Member, Nebraska Corn Growers Association; and Member, Lincoln Independent Business Association. Heier previously served as a Member of the Lancaster County Planning Commission and former Director and Past Chair of the Nebraska Corn Board.
Heier is a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University and holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Bernie and his wife, Connie, have been engaged in farming in rural Lancaster County near Walton, for over 30 years. The Heiers have one daughter, Tiffany, who resides in Lincoln, with her son Max.
