About Bernie Heier
Common Sense
- Maintain and endorse a responsible budget.
- Bernie Heier advocates sound money management for government agencies and continues to look for ways to cut excessive spending, while retaining essential services. This is a difficult task that requires experienced and thoughtful leadership on the County Board.
- Continue to support law enforcement and public safety.
- Maintain services and programs for the Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center.
- With the seriousness of juvenile violence and delinquency, prevention programs are always a good investment. Bernie has taken a leadership role on this issue throughout his tenure as a County Commissioner.
- Continue alternative programs for qualified adult offenders, instead of incarceration.
- The cost of incarceration is staggering to the county budget. Allowing qualified adults to negotiate an appropriate settlement for their crime would be good for all of the county taxpayers.
- Remain actively involved in Land Use Planning, with an emphasis on the need to continually review zoning and building issues in the county.
- The city and county must continue to work together to plan directional growth while being sensitive to our natural resources, the right to farm, and landowners’ rights.
