Maintain and endorse a responsible budget.

Bernie Heier advocates sound money management for government agencies and continues to look for ways to cut excessive spending, while retaining essential services. This is a difficult task that requires experienced and thoughtful leadership on the County Board.

Continue to support law enforcement and public safety.

Maintain services and programs for the Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center.

With the seriousness of juvenile violence and delinquency, prevention programs are always a good investment. Bernie has taken a leadership role on this issue throughout his tenure as a County Commissioner.

Continue alternative programs for qualified adult offenders, instead of incarceration.

The cost of incarceration is staggering to the county budget. Allowing qualified adults to negotiate an appropriate settlement for their crime would be good for all of the county taxpayers.

Remain actively involved in Land Use Planning, with an emphasis on the need to continually review zoning and building issues in the county.

The city and county must continue to work together to plan directional growth while being sensitive to our natural resources, the right to farm, and landowners’ rights.
